Scott Hanley has been director and general manager of WDUQ-FM in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since 1995. WDUQ is the leading public radio outlet in Pittsburgh and received the 2001 Radio Research Consortium's "Ralph" Award for midday audience growth. The station has won numerous awards for journalistic excellence, marketing, community outreach, and partnership.

Hanley's experience stretches across many aspects of broadcasting in his 27-year career that includes positions in Michigan, Texas, and Iowa. A former reporter, arts producer, music director, news director, and program director, Hanley has worked at a variety of stations — small and large, single, multiple, and dual (radio/TV) licensees.

As a member of the NPR Board of Directors, Hanley is Chair of the Distribution/Interconnection Committee. He also serves on the executive committee and the investment committee.

In addition to his duties with WDUQ and NPR, Hanley is president of the Pittsburgh Radio Organization, chair of the Public Broadcasting Management Association and has served on the board of Pittsburgh's Radio Information Service. He is a graduate and past curriculum chair of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. and has served on boards, committees, and as a volunteer for numerous other community organizations and events.

Hanley has served on several groups and task forces for the public radio system, including advisory panels for NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting regarding program distribution, satellite radio, programming, and Internet activities. He has served as a presenter at the Public Radio Conference, the National Association of Broadcasters convention, and many other regional and national meetings for organizations in and out of broadcasting.

Hanley holds a degree in music and has performed widely as a singer and instrumentalist. He also works for Duquesne University, on occasional teaching assignments in audio and video production, journalism, and media sales.
